About Audrey

Dr. Audrey Nath has deep roots in District C and across the city of Houston. Audrey was born at St. Luke’s Hospital to Indian and Chinese immigrant parents who met at the University of Houston. With parents in finance and engineering, Audrey was raised in a family who valued public education, and inculcated a love for math and science in her as a young child.

This love for math and science led her to Rice University for undergrad and then the MD/PhD program at UT-Houston. During her medical training and rotations, she served unhoused, impoverished, and immigrant communities within the Harris Health System, as well as women incarcerated in Harris County’s jail. Those first-hand experiences informed the way Audrey views policy-making today. The impact of mold after flooding, illegal dumping sites and housing insecurity should be addressed as public health concerns.

While completing her pediatrics training in San Antonio, Audrey continued to learn about the different local issues that affected people’s health. She saw first-hand that kids with lack of green space and parks for physical activity suffered from hypertension. She saw how lack of immigration status prevented folks from receiving medical care they needed and led to treatable diseases advancing. She saw how childcare was out of reach for families who couldn’t afford it.

In 2017, after completing her child neurology residency at Harvard Medical School, she returned to Houston with her husband, Mark, and built roots in District C. The decision was easy – they both saw the benefits of living in a walkable part of the city, where their children could easily access places to play and learn.

Audrey believes that most local issues have a public health component as well. Listening, responding, and treating ailments is her day-to-day work. She wants to bring that care to the residents of District C.

Audrey continues to practice neurology in a mostly telemedicine capacity, and she lives in District C with her husband Mark and their two children who attend public schools in HISD.
